10th EMAK Workshop was held in Vietnam on Dec. 2020
On December 4, 2020, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hosted an EMAK (Energy Management Action Network) workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam, and commissioned the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) to hold it.
The workshop was originally scheduled to be held in February 2020, but was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19. The workshop was held by connecting the venue in Vietnam online with Japan and Indonesia for participants from overseas.
(1) Objectives: To share energy management cases in the industrial and commercial sectors among public and private stakeholders related to energy management.
(2) Contents: The outcomes of the workshop were the following two points.
① Introduce the development of legal systems and energy management systems related to energy conservation in Vietnam through cooperation within the ASEAN region and bilateral cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.
② Sharing of both Improvement of energy efficiency of boilers implemented by Vietnamese companies with the cooperation of international organizations and advanced energy management systems achieved in Japanese and Indonesian companies.
(3) Results: Through panel discussions based on presentations and exchanges of opinions among workshop participants, the future direction of EMAK was summarized and the conclusion of the workshop was achieved.

EMAK is an international network in which 11 countries participate, led by Japan under the G20 Action.
Workshops have been held 10 times since 2010 with the aim of sharing best practices in industrial energy management and building networks between government energy policymakers and energy managers, and this time for the first time outside of G20 member countries.
In addition to 69 participants in the workshop at the Vietnam venue, 13 people from Japan and Indonesia participated online to share information on energy management.
In the panel discussion on the promotion of energy saving under the legal framework and international cooperation, the importance of providing appropriate cooperation projects on energy management (developing appropriate energy conservation plans, motivating the promotion of energy conservation through regulatory and financial support, and capacity building of providers related to the introduction of energy management systems) was pointed out.
The future direction of EMAK is recognized to contribute to a sustainable and global society by both sharing achievement of an effective energy management system and excellent cases of energy conservation and disseminating energy management guidelines.
